The right is united by similar views, and by the radical portion hiding their more radical views from the non-radical portion(Or using pretty words to disguise them). The left is not as united. We need to stop allowing our viewpoint differences to divide us while a greater enemy looms over our heads.
The right mostly seems to have the same views across the board, and they all for the most part get along and agree with each other. Only now is that shattering a little, thanks to Trump and some people waking up and realizing he's not the great man he claimed to be(Even though we told them that before they voted, but I digress). However, the left is comprised of multiple viewpoints, ideas, and beliefs. Vegan leftists, non-vegan leftists, communists, non-communists, anarchists, non-anarchists, and people who are so against some of these beliefs that they'll go into solidarity groups for leftists and insult those who hold them. This is not how we win. This is how we lose and allow the enemy to continue winning. For us to make any progress, we have to unite.
How can we unite when we're all so different?
While leftism holds various ideas, beliefs, opinions, and values, there's still at least a few things we, for the most part, have in common: Not pro-capitalism, anti-Imperialism, anti-authoritarianism, anti-fascist, and pro-true-freedom. We can use these values to unite and agree to disagree on everything else until the time matters to discuss those. I am a vegan myself. I believe animal rights are a core value important to have in this world. But I know we can't have animal rights if we don't even have human rights. Thus, I'm willing to work with non-vegans and ignore the value differences between us at least for now to achieve that goal. This is how we should be going about things. There's too much at stake right now to be bickering over our small differences. We can argue about who's who and why thinking x is lamer than thinking y or z, but that won't get us anywhere while the enemy is united. We do not and should not have to agree on everything to unite as one when needed. Being allowed to have different beliefs than others is what makes us strong, but refusing to collaborate because one person has a different view on communism, socialism, etc, is what makes us weak. I'm an eco-anarcho-communist, and I am willing to work with non-communist and non-anarchist leftists who have different beliefs. I will also respect their beliefs and be willing to have positive discussions between us. The problem is we're so busy with beliefs and micro-labels sometimes that we forget about the bigger picture.
The reason I'm writing this post is because I witnessed infighting in a vegan Discord server I'm in that discusses serious topics often in its own channel separate from the main premise of the server. One person believes the Iranian war is a net positive for Iranians, the rest of us believe the war isn't that great for anyone, to simplify the start of the discourse. However, one of those who believe the war isn't that great found some people causing trouble for them during one of their peaceful protests and they had reason to believe that group, that happened to be Iranian(Somewhere near the UK in Europe, for context), seemed like zionists. Whether or not that was true, I do not know. But I do know that was the tipping point for them, who I will call person A, and the person who was pro-IranWar, who I will call Person B. They proceeded to argue for a bit, then block each other, further creating a divide in the server. Obviously someone who believes the war is worth it won't vote to end it, but this is the reason I am writing this. We can't unite for the common goals because we're focused on everything else, it seems.
As a matter of fact, infighting is a major reason why I wanted to create a collaboration-positive blog site. I want to create a space where leftists can unite and find common goals to fight for, rather than separate each other because person A is a communist and person B hates communism too much to see the common goals or respect other beliefs of communism. I'm using that as an example again because I still cannot believe how split a leftist solidarity group I am a part of has so much infighting and bickering over labels! You'd think we were in pre-war Fallout America with how anti-communist some of the leftists there can sound sometimes.
